This CURF provides expanded confidentialised unit record data from the April 2005 National Crime and Safety Survey (NCSS). The Survey was conducted from April 2005. Summary results for the 2005 NCSS were published on 26 April 2006.
The 2005 NCSS CURF contains data on 36,505 persons from 18,606 private dwellings from all States and Territories, but excluding remote areas. The Survey collected information on perceptions of crime problems in the neighbourhood; feelings of safety at home alone during the day and at night; whether a victim of crime in the last 12 months (break-in, attempted break-in, motor vehicle theft, robber, assault and sexual assault); the number of instances; for the most recent incident, whether reported to police; and if the most recent incident was not reported to police, the main reason why not.
Please refer to Crime and Safety, Australia (cat. no. 4509.0) and Crime and Safety, Australia, Expanded Confidentialised Unit Record File, Technical Manual (cat. no. 4524.0.55.002) - Appendix 1 in this Manual contains a full list of the data items available on the CURF.
An expanded CURF is available from the 2002 NCSS and the 2005 NCSS CURF is similar in content to it.
The data are available through an expanded Confidentialised Unit Record File (CURF) released with the approval of the Australian Statistician. The CURF will be available via the Remote Access Data Laboratory (RADL) only. The RADL is an on-line database query system, to which users submit programs to interrogate and analyse data, and access the results, while still maintaining the confidentiality of ABS data providers.
