In trend terms, in January 2023:

  • unemployment rate remained at 3.5%.
  • unemployed people increased by 3,900 to 505,000. 
  • youth unemployment rate remained at 7.8%.

In trend terms, in January 2023, employment increased by 11,300 people (0.1%) to 13,753,200 people.

Flows into and out of employment

Full-time and part-time employment

In trend terms, in January 2023:

  • full-time employment increased by 9,200 to 9,602,400 people, and part-time employment increased by 2,200 to 4,150,800 people.
  • part-time share of employment was 30.2%.

 

Employment-to-population ratio

In trend terms, in January 2023, the employment-to-population ratio decreased to 64.2%.
