The seasonally adjusted estimate for the number of dwellings approved in Australia fell 9.0% in November, which follows a 5.6% fall in October.

The trend estimate for total dwellings approved fell 2.4% in November, which follows a 1.9% fall in October.

The seasonally adjusted estimate for private sector house approvals fell 2.5% in November, to 9,142, following a 1.1% decrease in October. Private sector dwellings excluding houses approved fell 22.7% in November, following an 11.7% fall in October.

The trend estimate for private sector house approvals fell 1.4% in November, which follows a 1.3% decline in October. Private sector dwellings excluding houses fell 4.1%, following a 2.7% fall in October.

Seasonally adjusted summary, by state

By state, the number of dwelling approvals fell in New South Wales (-18.4%), Western Australia (-17.5%), Victoria (-12.7%) and Queensland (-5.6%), while Tasmania (75.7%) and South Australia (10.0%) rose, in seasonally adjusted terms.

Approvals for private sector houses fell in Victoria (-8.0%), Western Australia (-6.1%), South Australia (-2.6%), and Queensland (-1.2%), while New South Wales rose (1.2%), in seasonally adjusted terms.

Trend summary, by state

Across Australia, the number of dwelling approvals decreased in Northern Territory (-11.7%), Western Australia (-6.2%), Queensland (-5.3%), New South Wales (-4.9%) and Australian Capital Territory (-3.2%). Rises were recorded in Tasmania (1.9%), Victoria (1.2%) and South Australia (1.0%), in trend terms.

Approvals for private sector houses fell in Western Australia (-3.5%), Queensland (-2.7%), Victoria (-1.6%) and South Australia (-0.6%), while New South Wales rose (0.4%), in trend terms.

Value of building approved, seasonally adjusted

The seasonally adjusted estimate for the value of total building approved fell 1.5% in November, following a 0.4% fall in October. The value of total residential building fell 4.0%, comprising of a 3.1% decrease in new residential building, and a 9.2% fall in alterations and additions.

The seasonally adjusted estimate for the value of non-residential building rose 2.0%, following a 2.3% increase in October.

Value of building approved, trend

The trend estimate for the value of total building approved was flat November, following a 0.3% rise in October. The value of total residential building decreased 1.6%, comprised by a 1.8% decrease in the value of new residential building approved and a 0.7% fall in the value of alterations and additions.

The trend estimate for the value of non-residential building rose 2.4% in November, following a 2.8% increase in October.
