An Employer of Choice

The ABS continues to be an Employer of Choice

A good place to work

In 2024, 85% of eligible Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) employees shared their views by participating in the Australian Public Service (APS) Employee Census.

Our 2024 results were very positive, improving across all key indices and comparing very favourably with agencies across the APS.

Of those who responded, 86% of us would recommend ABS as a good place to work.

At the ABS we have a strong emotional connection and commitment to working here, with an overall engagement score of 77% (APS average: 73%). We support and care about each other, and this is reflected in our overall wellbeing support score of 76% (APS average: 70%).

Our Employee Census results reflect our commitment to being an employer of choice, and to strengthening our Employee Value Proposition wherever we can.

What we offer

The ABS is committed to being an employer that attracts and retains top talent. Our Employee Value Proposition (EVP) is founded on meaningful work and a shared purpose, a collaborative approach to solution delivery, flexible work arrangements, and a great mix of development opportunities. Recent enhancements to our EVP include adopting a more flexible approach to location and improving the welcome experience for new staff members.

Our commitment to our employees is reflected in four key employment offerings:

1. Purpose: We inform Australia’s important decisions.

2. People: We are diverse, curious, dedicated and passionate.

3. Place: We enhance careers in a modern and flexible environment.

4. Partnerships: We collaborate to help drive real change.
