In seasonally adjusted terms:

• The total number of dwelling units commenced fell 1.1% to 40,293 dwellings.
• New private sector house commencements rose 1.7% to 25,732 dwellings.
• New private sector other residential commencements fell 7.4% to 13,756 dwellings.
• The value of total building work done fell 0.2% to $34.0b.

The September 2024 seasonally adjusted estimate: 

• Total dwellings approved rose 4.4%, to 14,842.
• Private sector houses rose 2.2%, to 9,745, while private sector dwellings excluding houses rose 4.7%, to 4,653.
• The value of total residential building was flat, at $8.04b.
• The value of non-residential building rose 3.6%, to $5.57b.

Provides final estimates of value of construction work done, in chain volume measures

In seasonally adjusted terms in the June quarter:

• Total construction work done rose 0.1% to $64,932.1m
• Building work done fell 0.3% to $33,815.0m
• Engineering work done rose 0.5% to $31,117.1m

The trend estimate for total construction work done fell 0.4%.

In the June quarter:

• Seasonally adjusted work done rose 1.2%.
• Seasonally adjusted work done for the private sector rose 0.4%.
• Value of work commenced rose 10.0% in original terms.
• Trend work done rose 0.3%.

• Australia’s dwelling stock was 10,879,349 dwellings at 30 June 2022.

• The net quarterly growth was 38,535 dwellings (0.4%), comprising 45,522 dwelling additions and 6,987 dwelling removals.

• The net quarterly growth of houses, townhouses and apartments was 23,456 (0.3%), 6,713 (0.5%) and 8,361 (0.5%) respectively. 

• 80.6% of in-scope land parcels were zoned residential, with 600 - 800 square metres the most common size
• 59.5% of new dwellings in-scope were approved for land zoned residential, with 200 - 400 square metres the most common area per dwelling
