During the March 2023 quarter:

  • the total managed funds industry rose $137.3b (3.1%) to $4,544.9b funds under management
  • consolidated assets of managed funds institutions rose $113.0b (3.2%) to $3,669.5b
  • cross invested assets rose $20.1b (3.8%) to $542.6b
  • unconsolidated assets rose $133.0b (3.3%) to $4,212.1b.

Superannuation (pension) funds

Total unconsolidated assets of superannuation funds rose $120.9b (3.5%) to $3,546.6b during the March quarter.

Key movements were as follows:

  • assets overseas rose $44.3b (6.7%)
  • units in trusts rose $35.9b (3.0%)
  • bonds, etc. rose $13.5b (15.6%)
  • shares rose $13.4b (2.3%)
  • deposits rose $10.9b (4.2%).

Public offer (retail) unit trusts

Total unconsolidated assets of public offer (retail) trusts rose $8.0b (1.6%) to $497.0b during the March quarter.

Key movements were as follows:

  • assets overseas rose $5.4b (6.5%)
  • units in trusts rose $4.0b (3.7%)
  • other financial assets fell $1.2b (-18.0%)
  • bonds, etc. rose $0.7b (4.4%)
  • shares fell $0.3b (-0.4%).

Cross investment within public offer (retail) unit trusts rose $2.7b (6.1%) to $45.8b.

Other managed funds institutions

Life insurance

Total unconsolidated assets of life insurance corporations rose $2.5b (2.1%) to $121.4b during the March quarter.

Key movements were as follows:

  • units in trusts rose $1.7b (4.2%)
  • assets overseas rose $1.0b (6.3%)
  • other financial assets fell $0.8b (-12.7%)
  • bonds, etc. rose $0.5b (2.0%)
  • shares rose $0.5b (4.3%).

All other managed funds institutions

All other managed funds institutions

Total unconsolidated assets of:

  • friendly societies rose $0.2b (2.7%) to $9.2b
  • common funds rose $0.4b (3.6%) to $11.5b
  • cash management trusts rose $1.0b (4.0%) to $26.3b.
