Total unconsolidated assets of superannuation funds fell $27.7b (-0.8%) to $3,494.0b during the March quarter.

Key movements were as follows:

  • units in trusts fell $46.7b (-3.5%)
  • shares rose $30.8b (5.2%)
  • assets overseas fell $30.5b (-4.3%)
  • derivatives rose $7.6b (19.3%)
  • land, buildings and equipment rose $3.1b (1.5%).

Important data quality note

Public offer (retail) unit trusts

Total unconsolidated assets of public offer (retail) trusts fell $13.1b (-2.6%) to $483.0b during the March quarter.

Key movements were as follows:

  • assets overseas fell $3.8b (-4.3%)
  • units in trusts fell $3.5b (-3.4%)
  • loans and placements fell $1.9b (-6.1%)
  • shares fell $1.7b (-2.2%)
  • deposits fell $1.4b (-16.3%).

Cross investment within public offer (retail) unit trusts rose $0.0b (0.0%) to $43.2b.

Life insurance

Total unconsolidated assets of life insurance corporations fell $3.9b (-3.1%) to $122.9b during the March quarter.

Key movements were as follows:

  • units in trusts fell $2.3b (-5.3%)
  • assets overseas fell $0.8b (-4.7%)
  • bonds, etc. fell $0.4b (-1.6%)
  • shares fell $0.3b (-1.8%)
  • derivatives fell $0.2b (-17.6%).

  • common funds rose $0.1b (0.5%) to $11.5b
