Total unconsolidated assets of superannuation funds rose $93.4b (2.7%) to $3,524.1b during the December quarter.

Key movements were as follows:

  • units in trusts rose $32.2b (2.5%)
  • assets overseas rose $29.3b (4.3%)
  • shares rose $21.5b (3.8%)
  • land, buildings and equipment rose $8.6b (4.2%)
  • derivatives rose $5.2b (15.2%)

Important data quality note

Public offer (retail) unit trusts

Total unconsolidated assets of public offer (retail) trusts rose $18.7b (3.9%) to $495.2b during the December quarter.

Key movements were as follows:

  • land, buildings and equipment rose $8.2b (5.4%)
  • units in trusts rose $6.6b (6.8%)
  • assets overseas rose $5.4b (6.4%)
  • shares rose $1.9b (2.7%)
  • loans and placements fell $1.8b (-5.7%)

Cross investment within public offer (retail) unit trusts rose $1.6b (3.9%) to $43.2b.

Life insurance

Total unconsolidated assets of life insurance corporations fell $2.7b (-2.1%) to $126.3b during the December quarter.

Key movements were as follows:

  • units in trusts fell $0.8b (-1.9%)
  • bonds, etc. fell $0.4b (-1.5%)
  • short term securities fell $0.4b (-17.1%)
  • other non-financial assets fell $0.4b (-13.7%)
  • assets overseas fell $0.3b (-1.9%)

All other managed funds institutions

Total unconsolidated assets of:

  • friendly societies rose $0.2b (2.7%) to $9.2b
  • common funds rose $0.1b (0.5%) to $11.4b
  • cash management trusts rose $3.3b (11.1%) to $33.6b
