Total unconsolidated assets of superannuation funds rose $160.8b (5.5%) to $3,092.8b during the December quarter.

Key movements were as follows:

  • shares rose $69.1b (15.9%)
  • units in trusts rose $60.1b (5.5%)
  • assets overseas rose $37.6b (7.2%)
  • deposits fell $15.2b (-6.0%)
  • derivatives rose $6.6b (22.5%)

Public offer (retail) unit trusts

Total unconsolidated assets of public offer (retail) trusts rose $15.3b (3.7%) to $431.7b during the December quarter.

Key movements were as follows:

  • units in trusts rose $6.8b (6.8%)
  • shares rose $5.3b (14.0%)
  • assets overseas rose $3.7b (5.9%)
  • deposits fell $2.7b (-22.0%)
  • derivatives rose $2.2b (50.9%)

Cross investment within public offer (retail) unit trusts rose $1.3b (3.7%) to $37.2b

Life insurance

Total unconsolidated assets of life insurance corporations rose $1.4b (1.1%) to $128.5b during the December quarter.

Key movements were as follows:

  • units in trusts rose $1.5b (3.5%)
  • bonds, etc. rose $1.1b (4.2%)
  • deposits fell $0.6b (-11.4%)
  • assets overseas fell $0.5b (-3.1%)
  • shares rose $0.5b (3.4%)

Total unconsolidated assets of:

  • friendly societies rose $0.3b (3.6%) to $8.2b
  • common funds rose $0.2b (2.2%) to $11.5b
