ANZSCO classifications

As the co-owners of the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO), both the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) and Statistics New Zealand (Stats NZ) have decided not to commit to undertaking a review of ANZSCO at this stage.

While the ABS recognises a review is desirable, a review of this nature would be labour and resource intensive and was considered against a range of other ABS priorities.

Our focus on the ABS Statistical Business Transformation Program and the overall ABS resource position does not provide sufficient flexibility to divert staff to this activity at this time.

The ABS will reconsider this position after the 2021 Australian Census.
