ABS Media Statements - ANZSCO skill level refresh
In August 2018, the ABS decided, in consultation with Statistics New Zealand (Stats NZ), not to pursue a full review of the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupation (ANZSCO) at that time given other more pressing priorities within available resources. In the absence of a full review, the ABS has been working with Stats NZ to undertake a focused skill level refresh of ANZSCO and those changes have now been released.
While these updates have been welcomed by stakeholders, they do not address most stakeholder concerns about ANZSCO being outdated. The ABS continues to engage with stakeholders to further understand the drivers, benefits and costs to enable development of a business case for a future full review. At this time the ABS and Stats NZ are unable to commit to a timeframe for a full review and the ABS would require additional resourcing.
