2020 Census Test

The Census Test website, online form and Contact Centre closed on Friday 4 December 2020 at 5pm AEDT.

Around 100,000 households from selected suburbs in Sydney, Adelaide, Darwin and Canberra, as well as regional centres of Karratha, Warrnambool and Alice Springs Town Camps and surrounds were invited to participate.

We’d like to thank everyone who participated for the support we received for our Census Test. The response rate exceeded all our expectations.

The Census Test helped us ensure the Census in 2021 is easy for people to complete, our processes work and the Census form captures information accurately.

The running of the test and results have built confidence in our people, vendors, systems and processes. It has provided us with critical input to finalise our planning and preparations for the next Census on Tuesday 10 August 2021.

As this was a test and not intended to produce representative statistics, the ABS will not be releasing the data collected.
