Australian Climate Service

The ABS as a key partner of the Australian Climate Service (ACS).

The ACS has been established to provide improved data, intelligence and expert advice on climate risks and impacts to support and inform decision-making.

Their vision is to advance information and knowledge that is used to enable a safer, adaptive and prosperous Australia, resilient and prepared for climate change and natural hazards.

Better intel is needed to enable governments, industries and communities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from extreme weather events. ACS work requires an understanding of how climate and weather risks occur and change through time, how they affect Australia's social, built, economic and natural environments, and where people, systems and critical infrastructure are most vulnerable.

As a key partner, the ABS provides critical social and economic information, enabling an improved picture of the vulnerability of geographical locations to help prevent or prepare for natural hazards. This contributes to ABS’ purpose to inform Australia’s important decisions by delivering relevant, trusted and objective data, statistics and insights.

The partnership with the ACS is an opportunity for the ABS to push the boundaries of what data can do for Australian communities, businesses and Governments. By using our data in new and innovative ways, our work with the ACS will help tell the real story of climate change in Australia through bringing life and meaning to numbers.
