The ABS will be closed from 12.00pm, 24 December 2024 and will reopen at 9.00am, 2 January 2025. During this time there will be no statistical releases and our support functions will be unavailable. The ABS wishes you a safe and happy Christmas.

Statistical geography

Statistical geography allows users to understand, compare and analyse statistical data for informed decision making about all sorts of places from cities and suburbs to regional or Local Government areas. The ABS creates a variety of products that include location information. See ABS geography products for details.

ABS data is available for many different boundaries published in the Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS). ABS Maps allows users to visualise and compare ASGS boundaries, as well as print and share simple maps.

The ABS Geospatial Roadmap is our strategy for unlocking more value from ABS geospatially enabled statistics, technologies, and capabilities for the next four years.

The Statistical Spatial Framework is designed to help data custodians to add location to their datasets and enable users to integrate geospatial and statistical information. This ensures that location can be used to better understand our environment, society and economy.
