PRINCIPAL OFFENCE

For the selected principal offences in the following graph, offender rates were highest for:
    • Public order offences in the Northern Territory (1,891 offenders per 100,000 persons aged 10 years and over);
    • Acts intended to cause injury in the Northern Territory (1,557 offenders per 100,000 persons aged 10 years and over);
    • Illicit drug offences in South Australia (975 offenders per 100,000 persons aged 10 years and over); and
    • Theft in New South Wales (376 offenders per 100,000 persons aged 10 years and over).
Offender rates for all principal offence divisions are available in Table 8. For a definition of "principal offence", refer to the Explanatory Notes, paragraphs 13-15.
