Refers to statistics that measure the financial transactions of governments and reflect the impact of these transactions on other sectors of the economy. Government treasuries (or Department of Finance) produce financial information which reflects the expectations of the government in regard to expenditure and revenue for the budget year.

a. Government Finance Estimates are derived each quarter to provide general government and public trading enterprise sector data for input into the national accounts. Quarterly data are also used to produce the first annual figures of 'actual' data for a given financial year. (Government Finance Statistics)
b. Government Finance Statistics focuses on financial transactions such as governments' spending, lending, taxing and borrowing activities. The information is used extensively by Commonwealth and State treasuries and other analysts of public sector activity.
