2006, Integrated Collection and Dissemination Services Graduate
Bachelor of Business (Accounting/ Business Management)
Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga |
I began as a Graduate with the ABS (Central Office) in January 2006 after completing a Bachelor Business (Accounting/Business Management) at Charles Sturt University. It was the first time I had left home and it was was my first full-time job. Although this was initially daunting, the people at the ABS instantly made me feel welcome and I settled in with ease. I was provided with three weeks accommodation, all my moving costs were paid for, I received time off to return for Graduation ceremony and numerous morning teas and lunches were organised to ensure I became accustomed to the ABS environment. Overall my first few months were largely spent getting to know my role, attending training courses and socialising with all the other new graduates.
Since joining the ABS, I have worked in a variety of roles. As part of the Graduate Program I initially began with two rotations. For the first three months I worked in a client servicing role and then I rotated to work in a website development role. These rotations provided exposure to the wider operations of my division as well as introducing me to new people and a different range of work. I was promoted after completing the Graduate Program and have subsequently worked in a further two roles. Most recently I have been offered the opportunity to work in a finance role, as management staff recognised my background in this field.
The ABS has provided me with an excellent first step in my career.
