This publication presents estimates of energy consumption and generation by Australian businesses for 2011-12. These estimates were compiled from the Energy, Water and Environment Survey conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

This collection is a response to the continued challenges of climate change, drought and management of Australia's resources. It aims to fill some information gaps by providing decision makers with high quality, comprehensive, industry-wide information on a number of high profile and current policy areas including:

  • Climate change (e.g. energy efficiency, renewable energy and the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme)
  • Sustainable energy supply and use.

The information in this release relates to energy and environmental management. Data on energy use will be published in Energy Account, Australia, 2011-12 (cat. no. 4604.0), which is scheduled for release in late 2013.

The ABS welcomes comments and suggestions from users regarding future releases of energy, water and environment. These comments should be addressed to the Director, Annual Integrated Collections Business Statistics Centre, Australian Bureau of Statistics, GPO Box 2796Y, Melbourne, VIC 3001.
