The ABS has launched an interactive and innovative game, Run That Town that promotes the release and application of Census data. By using core demographic data, the game demonstrates, in a simple and visual way, the many ways Census data can be used by everyday Australians in a light-hearted and entertaining way. Run That Town puts the player in charge of any Australian neighbourhood and challenges them to make planning decisions based on 2011 Census data to boost popularity, grow the town and keep the locals happy. The game centres on town building activities where players complete projects to influence the growth, direction and happiness of residents in their post code. The player succeeds by evaluating the initial Census data and making sound decisions on the types of projects to undertake. The game is intended for a wide audience offering both one-time and ongoing users a unique insight into the value of Census data. The game is available on all current Apple devices and can be downloaded from the App Store for free. For more information visit http://runthattown.abs.gov.au/ |
