• The Census will be held on Tuesday 9 August, 2011.
• The Census provides job opportunities for about 43,000 Australians.
• There are two types of jobs available: Area Supervisors and Census Collectors.
• An Area Supervisor is responsible for an average of 12 Census Collectors.
• Area Supervisors will work from 18 April to 7 October.
• The majority of Area Supervisors will earn between $4,300 and $7,500.
• Census Collectors will be employed from 1 July until 8 September.
• The majority of Census Collectors will earn between $1,300 and $2,800.
• Most Collectors will be responsible for delivering and collecting forms from about 500 households in cities or about 200 households in regional areas.
• To be an Area Supervisor or Census Collector, a person must be an Australian citizen or a permanent resident of Australia, be at least 18 years old and have access to a vehicle and telephone.
• The Australian Bureau of Statistics provides all training for Area Supervisors and Census Collectors.
• All Census jobs will be advertised in major, regional and local newspapers and on the ABS website at www.abs.gov.au/recruitment or telephone 1800 420 182.
