During the June 2023 quarter:

  • the total managed funds industry rose $72.7b (1.6%) to $4,571.4b funds under management
  • consolidated assets of managed funds institutions rose $75.6b (2.1%) to $3,718.7b
  • cross invested assets rose $7.8b (1.4%) to $547.3b
  • unconsolidated assets rose $83.4b (2.0%) to $4,266.0b.

Superannuation (pension) funds

Total unconsolidated assets of superannuation funds rose $76.8b (2.2%) to $3,618.7b during the June quarter.

Key movements were as follows:

  • assets overseas rose $47.4b (6.7%)
  • units in trusts rose $13.9b (1.1%)
  • deposits rose $7.1b (2.6%)
  • shares rose $6.2b (1.0%)
  • bonds, etc. rose $5.3b (5.2%).

Public offer (retail) unit trusts

Total unconsolidated assets of public offer (retail) trusts rose $7.8b (1.7%) to $480.1b during the June quarter.

Key movements were as follows:

  • assets overseas rose $5.5b (6.3%)
  • land, buildings and equipment fell $3.4b (-2.2%)
  • other financial assets rose $2.0b (41.4%)
  • units in trusts rose $1.4b (1.2%)
  • shares rose $1.2b (1.8%).

Cross investment within public offer (retail) unit trusts fell $1.4b (-3.2%) to $42.8b.

Other managed funds institutions

Life insurance

Total unconsolidated assets of life insurance corporations fell $1.1b (-0.9%) to $120.3b during the June quarter.

Key movements were as follows:

  • shares fell $2.4b (-18.1%)
  • units in trusts rose $1.6b (3.9%)
  • deposits rose $0.8b (25.2%)
  • short term securities fell $0.8b (-28.6%)
  • bonds, etc. fell $0.5b (-1.7%).

All other managed funds institutions

Total unconsolidated assets of:

  • friendly societies rose $0.3b (3.1%) to $9.5b
  • common funds rose $0.2b (1.9%) to $11.8b
  • cash management trusts fell $0.6b (-2.2%) to $25.7b.
