  • consolidated assets of managed funds institutions rose $83.8b (2.4%) to $3,564.6b
  • cross invested assets rose $26.6b (5.4%) to $523.2b
  • unconsolidated assets rose $110.4b (2.8%) to $4,087.7b.

Superannuation (pension) funds

Total unconsolidated assets of superannuation funds rose $99.5b (3.0%) to $3,434.5b during the December quarter.

Key movements were as follows:

  • units in trusts rose $41.5b (3.6%)
  • shares rose $39.4b (7.1%)
  • assets overseas rose $10.9b (1.7%)
  • bonds, etc. rose $6.2b (7.7%)
  • deposits rose $3.8b (1.4%).

Important data quality note

Public offer (retail) unit trusts

Total unconsolidated assets of public offer (retail) trusts rose $11.2b (2.3%) to $489.0b during the December quarter.

Key movements were as follows:

  • shares rose $5.0b (7.9%)
  • units in trusts rose $4.8b (4.7%)
  • assets overseas rose $3.9b (5.0%)
  • deposits fell $2.0b (-21.3%)
  • bonds, etc. rose $0.5b (3.3%).

Cross investment within public offer (retail) unit trusts rose $2.6b (6.4%) to $43.2b.

Other managed funds institutions

Life insurance

Total unconsolidated assets of life insurance corporations rose $0.5b (0.4%) to $118.9b during the December quarter.

Key movements were as follows:

  • units in trusts rose $1.0b (2.6%)
  • short term securities rose $0.9b (43.2%)
  • deposits fell $0.6b (-13.0%)
  • other non-financial assets fell $0.4b (-13.4%)
  • shares fell $0.3b (-2.5%).

All other managed funds institutions

Total unconsolidated assets of:

  • friendly societies rose $0.2b (2.7%) to $9.0b
  • common funds rose $0.1b (0.6%) to $11.1b
  • cash management trusts fell $1.0b (-3.8%) to $25.3b.
