In the 2016 Census, there were 5,287 people in Australia who were born in Ghana. Of these 54.1% were male and 45.9% were female.

Of the population born in Ghana who usually live in Australia, 10.5% were aged 0 - 14 years and 3.4% were aged 65 years and over. The median age of people in Australia who were born in Ghana was 36 years.

Of people in Australia aged 15 years and over who were born in Ghana, 53.4% were married, 6.2% were separated, and 10.0% were divorced.

Of the population born in Ghana who usually live in Australia, 34.7% were attending an educational institution. There were 5.8% in primary school, 7.1% in secondary school and 16.9% in a tertiary or technical institution.

Of the population born in Ghana who usually live in Australia, 15.7% reported having completed Year 12 as their highest level of educational attainment, 16.3% had completed a Certificate III or IV and 12.2% had completed an Advanced Diploma or Diploma.

In Australia of people who were born in Ghana, the most common responses to the religion question were Pentecostal 20.8%, Catholic 16.8%, Christian, nfd 13.3%, Presbyterian and Reformed 11.2% and No Religion, so described 6.8%.

Employment

The median monthly mortgage repayment was $2,167 and the median weekly rent paid was $360.

All occupants of a private dwelling complete one census form and are counted as a household. 'Born in Ghana' includes households in Australia where at least one person was born in Ghana. Of those households, 76.2% were one family households and 12.7% were lone person households.
