Demographics & education

In the 2011 Census, there were 16,402 people in Labrador of these 48.1% were male and 51.9% were female. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people made up 1.7% of the population.

The median age of people in Labrador was 39 years. Children aged 0 - 14 years made up 13.9% of the population and people aged 65 years and over made up 18.1% of the population.

Of people in Labrador aged 15 years and over, 32.5% were married and 19.1% were either divorced or separated.

The median age of married people in Labrador was 53 years and the median age of people never married was 28 years.

Of employed people in Labrador, 11.1% worked 1 to 15 hours, 9.9% worked 16 to 24 hours and 38.8% worked 40 hours or more.

The median age of people employed full-time in Labrador was 38 years and for people who were employed part-time was 38 years.

Of the families in Labrador, 26.6% were couple families with children, 45.5% were couple families without children and 25.0% were one parent families.

In Labrador 15.6% of single parents were male and 84.4% were female.
