In the 2006 Census (held on 8th August 2006), there were 318 Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people usually resident in East Gippsland (S) - Rem, 47.8% were male and 52.2% were female.

In the 2006 Census, 36.8% of the population usually resident in East Gippsland (S) - Rem were Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children aged 0-14 years, 9.4% were aged 55 years and over and the median age was 23 years.

Language diversity

In the 2006 Census, there were no responses for Indigenous language spoken at home. English was stated as the only language spoken at home by 95.3% resident in East Gippsland (S) - Rem

Employment

During the week prior to the 2006 Census, 110 Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, aged 15 years and over in East Gippsland (S) - Rem were in the labour force. Of these 88.2% were employed and 11.8% were unemployed. 84 were not in the labour force.

In the 2006 Census, 25.9% of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, aged 15 years and over who were usually resident in East Gippsland (S) - Rem had completed Year 10 or equivalent, and 13.4% had completed Year 12 or equivalent. 8.0% aged 15-19 years were in full-time education and 41.8% aged 15 years and over had a qualification.
