In the 2006 Census (held on 8th August 2006), there were 679 Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people usually resident in Mount Druitt/Whalan, 49.3% were male and 50.7% were female.

In the 2006 Census, 41.5% of the population usually resident in Mount Druitt/Whalan were Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children aged 0-14 years, 7.7% were aged 55 years and over and the median age was 19 years.

Language diversity

In the 2006 Census, there were no responses for Indigenous language spoken at home. English was stated as the only language spoken at home by 94.8% resident in Mount Druitt/Whalan

Employment

During the week prior to the 2006 Census, 213 Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, aged 15 years and over in Mount Druitt/Whalan were in the labour force. Of these 72.3% were employed and 27.7% were unemployed. 168 were not in the labour force.
