In the 2006 Census (held on 8th August 2006), there were 315 Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people usually resident in Shalvey, 44.1% were male and 55.9% were female.

In the 2006 Census, 40.0% of the population usually resident in Shalvey were Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children aged 0-14 years, 6.0% were aged 55 years and over and the median age was 17 years.

Language diversity

In the 2006 Census, there were no responses for Indigenous language spoken at home. English was stated as the only language spoken at home by 92.4% resident in Shalvey

Employment

During the week prior to the 2006 Census, 70 Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, aged 15 years and over in Shalvey were in the labour force. Of these 81.4% were employed and 18.6% were unemployed. 94 were not in the labour force.
