On Census Night 7th August 2001, 31,193 people were counted in 2099: of these 49.2% were male and 50.8% were female. Of the total population 0.4% were Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

Employment

During the week prior to Census Night 2001, 17,039 people aged 15 years and over in 2099 were in the labour force. Of these 64.7% worked full-time, 28.6% worked part-time, 2.6% were employed but did not state their hours worked and 4.1% were unemployed. 7,685 people were not in the labour force.

On Census Night 2001 in 2099, the most common responses for occupation were Intermediate Clerical, Sales and Service Workers 11.1%, Professionals 11.0%, Tradespersons and Related Workers 8.2%, Associate Professionals 7.9%, Elementary Clerical, Sales and Service Workers 6.2%, Managers and Administrators 5.3%, Labourers and Related Workers 4.9%, Intermediate Production and Transport Workers 4.5% and Advanced Clerical and Service Workers 3.3%.

On Census Night 2001, of the employed people aged 15 years and over in 2099, the most common responses for industry of employment included Business Services 8.4%, Personal and Household Good Retailing 4.5%, Health Services 3.9%, Food Retailing 3.5% and Construction Trade Services 3.3%.
