About this Release	About this Release This paper discusses the methods proposed for use in two projects currently under way: deriving small area estimates of crime prevalence and incidence rates; and estimating the propensity to report crime. These projects use the 1998 National Crime and Safety Survey (NCSS) to model crime rates and the propensity to report crime. They were started in December 2000, and the planned completion date is late 2001.
