2011 ASGC AREA BASED CORRESPONDENCES
The Australian Standard Geographical Classification (ASGC) is a hierarchical classification system of geographical areas and consists of a number of interrelated structures. It provides a common framework of statistical geography and enables the production of statistics which are comparable.
The 2011 ASGC is the final edition of the ASGC and has a date of effect of 1 July 2011. From 2011 onwards the ABS will be using a new statistical geography called the Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS).
The product Australian Standard Geographical Classification (ASGC) Correspondences (cat. no. 1216.0.15.002) contains four separate correspondence files (previously known as concordance files). These files are comma delimited text files. Metadata information that shows the file formats are included below.

2011 ASGC Structures Correspondence
This file shows the relationship of the Statistical Local Area (SLA) within the 2011 ASGC Structures. This includes the Main Structure, the Statistical District Structure, the Statistical Region Structure and the Local Government Area Structure.
2011 LGA from 2011 SLA Correspondence
This file allows the conversion of data from the ASGC Edition 2011 Statistical Local Areas (SLA) to 2011 Local Government Areas (LGA). This area based correspondence can be used to translate statistics aggregated by SLA to LGA aggregations.
2011 SLA from 2006 CD Correspondence
This file allows the conversion of data from the 2006 Collection Districts (CD) to ASGC Edition 2011 Statistical Local Areas (SLA). This area based correspondence can be used to translate statistics aggregated by CD to SLA aggregations.
2011 SLA from 2010 SLA Correspondence
This file allows the conversion of data from the 2010 Statistical Local Areas (SLA) to ASGC Edition 2011 Statistical Local Areas (SLA). This area based correspondence can be used to translate statistics aggregated by 2010 SLA to 2011 SLA aggregations.
