In January 2001, ABS published an Information Paper, ABS Views on Remoteness, Cat. No. 1244.0, seeking the views of users and potential users on five proposals for change to the Australian Standard Geographical Classification (ASGC). This paper summarises the feed back received from the first paper and responds to some commonly asked questions and suggestions. The paper also describes the changes which ABS will make in response to that feedback and further clarifies the purposes for which the new Remoteness classification should, and should not, be used.
