Purpose
The Survey of Company Profits (SCP) is a quarterly survey which collects information about profits and selected income and expenses from incorporated private sector businesses.
The data are used extensively by financial and economic analysts as a leading economic performance measure. SCP data can also be used as an indicator of the effectiveness of both broad monetary policy and specific industry initiatives.
Description
The SCP is a sample survey of private sector incorporated businesses with more than 30 employees, including businesses in the energy industry. The scope of the survey excludes public sector business units (i.e. all departments, authorities and other organisations owned and/or controlled by the Commonwealth Government, State and local governments). Primary producer marketing boards are classified as public sector and are also excluded from the scope of the survey. Original data by broad and detailed industry, and trend and seasonally adjusted estimates by industry derived from the SCP are published for businesses with more than 30 employees.
