Purpose
To provide comprehensive data on Australia's research and development (R&D) effort. Provides data for the Business, Commonwealth and State Government, Higher Education, and Private non-profit sectors.Includes data by the socioeconomic objective of economic development (energy resources and energy supply categories).
Description
Presents summary statistics of expenditure and human resources for four sector classifications. These sectors are adapted from the guidelines specified by the OECD for R&D surveys.
Method of collection
Data is sourced from individual sector publications produced by the ABS. This data in turn is obtained by mail questionnaire.
Data detail
Expenditure on R&D by type of expenditure, activity, source of funds and location of expenditure
Resources devoted to R&D by socioeconomic objective, and field of research
Human resources devoted to R&D by type of employee, socioeconomic objective and field of research
Payments and receipts for technical know-how by industry
Geographic coverage
Australia and by State and Territory.
Frequency of data availability
Annual and year ended 30 June.
Historical data
Data are available from 1994.
