The two major species of cephalopods taken are the southern calamari (Septioteuthis australis) and arrow squid (Notodarus gouldi). The more inshore southern calamari, which attracts a premium price, is currently taken in larger quantities. The size of the arrow squid resource, however, is probably much larger and therefore holds potential for expansion.
