At 30 June 2005, the Victorian milk cattle herd stood at 2.0 million, with the highest numbers in the Western District and Goulburn Statistical Divisions.

At 30 June 2005, most milk cattle in Victoria were found in the Western District Statistical Division (551,000). This was followed by the Goulburn Statistical Division with 494,000 and the Gippsland Statistical Division with 390,000.
