At 30 June 2005, the Victorian meat cattle herd stood at 2.5 million, with the highest numbers in the Western District and Goulburn Statistical Divisions.

At 30 June 2005, most meat cattle in Victoria were found in the Western District Statistical Division (673,000). This was followed by the Goulburn Statistical Division with 440,000 and the Ovens-Murray Statistical Division with 342,500.
