Appendix 9. Short names for publication
Introduction
Some of the names of the country units and groupings used in the SACC are too long for use in all circumstances, e.g. as table headings. To cater for these circumstances a list of standard short names has been developed. This list comprises country and group titles shortened to a maximum field length of 15 and 30 characters.
When shortening names to fit into the selected field width, a number of procedures were followed to make the process as consistent as possible, e.g. removing descriptive material, use of acronyms, replacing 'and' with a slash, etc.
