At 30 June 2007, the Victorian milk cattle herd stood at 1.7 million, with the highest numbers in the Western District and Goulburn Statistical Divisions (SDs).

At 30 June 2007, most milk cattle in Victoria were found in the Western District SD (465,000), followed by the Goulburn SD with 436,000 and the Gippsland Statistical Division with 292,000.
