This publication contains estimates of the quantity of grain stored in grain storage facilities operated by bulk grain handling companies and major grain traders in Australia as at 30 September 2004.


KEY POINTS

The total quantity of grain held in storage facilities operated by bulk grain handling companies and major grain traders at 30 September 2004 was 7,963,800 tonnes, a 52% reduction on the 30 June 2004 level of 16,678,000 tonnes, but still 85% higher than the stocks held at 30 September 2003.

Over the three month period to 30 September 2004, wheat stocks declined 52%, from 10,715,500 tonnes to 5,159,000 tonnes and barley stocks declined by 54% from 4,111,400 tonnes to 1,878,000 tonnes. The quantity of oats stocks fell by 44% to 97,000 tonnes in the three months to 30 September 2004.
