Livestock and meat production monthly trend movements for February 2017:
Cattle slaughter decreased by 723 head or 0.1% for February 2017 when compared with January 2017 and there was a year-on-year decrease of 61,000 head or 9.4%.
The number of calves slaughtered in February 2017 decreased by 1,700 or 5.2% month-on-month and compared to this period last year decreased by 10,300 head or 24.3%.
Sheep slaughter in February 2017 increased by 2,600 head or 0.5% compared with January 2017 and was down 112,800 head or 17.1% year-on-year.
Lamb slaughters decreased by 11,700 head or 0.6% for February 2017. Compared with February 2016, slaughters increased marginally, up 0.1%.
Pig slaughter continued to hold steady for the month of February (increasing by 193 head) and continued to increase year-on-year with slaughters up to 10,700 or 2.6% on this period last year.
