MARCH KEY POINTS

Livestock and meat slaughter monthly trend movements for March 2018:
  • Cattle slaughter increased by 2,880 head (or 0.5%) for the month ending March 2018 compared with the previous month and increased by 34,720 head (or 6.0%) year-on-year.
  • Calf slaughter decreased by 240 head (or 0.8%) for the month ending March 2018 compared with the previous month but increased by 1,180 head (or 3.9%) year-on-year.
  • Sheep slaughter decreased by 4,040 head (or 0.6%) for the month ending March 2018 compared with the previous month but increased by 76,050 head (or 13.6%) year-on-year.
  • Lamb slaughter increased by 4,960 head (or 0.3%) for the month ending March 2018 compared with the previous month and increased by 77,370 head (or 4.2%) year-on-year.
  • Pig slaughter largely remained steady, increasing 230 head (or 0.1%) for the month ending March 2018 compared with the previous month and increased by 17,660 head (or 4.1%) year-on-year.
