The impacts of the poor seasonal conditions in the eastern states of Australia continue to be reflected in the September 2018 data.
Both cattle and sheep slaughters remain high, with sheep slaughters up 35.3% year-on-year and cattle slaughter up 13.1% year on year.
Lamb slaughters continued to decrease this month, down 4.5% from August in trend terms, the largest September fall sincetrend estimates were introduced in 1979.
Livestock and meat slaughter monthly trend movements for September 2018:
Cattle slaughter increased by 6,800 head (or 1.0%) for the month ending September 2018 compared with the previous month and increased by 79,500 head (or 13.1%) year-on-year.
Calf slaughter increased by 1,110 head (or 2.8%) in the month ending September 2018 compared with the previous month and increased by 4,000 head (or 11.0%) year-on-year.
Sheep slaughter increased by 7,700 head (or 0.8%) for the month ending September 2018 compared with the previous month and increased by 239,900 head (or 35.3%) year-on-year.
Lamb slaughter decreased by 81,400 head (or 4.5%) for the month ending September 2018 compared with the previous month and decreased by 208,100 head (or 10.8%) year-on-year.
Pig slaughter increased by 2,000 head (or 0.4%) for the month ending September 2018 compared to the previous month and increased by 10,300 head (or 2.3%) year-on-year.
