Country of Birth The majority of federal offenders in the Northern Territory (96%) and New South Wales (69%) had a country of birth other than Australia. For Queensland and South Australia, 52% of federal offenders were born in Australia. The highest proportion of federal offenders born outside Australia were from Vietnam and Indonesia (11% each). For the total prisoner population however, a vast majority of prisoners had a country of birth of Australia, ranging between 75% in New South Wales to 95% in the Northern Territory.
