Heritage

In 2011-12 the estimate of expenditure, funded by the Australian Government, on Heritage activities fell 4% to $610.5m from $637.7m in 2010-11.

The estimate of expenditure funded by the Australian Government was highest for Other museums and cultural heritage ($248.8m) followed by Environmental heritage ($123.1m).

The estimate for expenditure on Art museums was $64.6m, a fall of 14% from $75.0m in 2010-11.

Heritage categories with increased expenditure in 2011-12 were Archives and Libraries. Expenditure on Archives rose 5% to $112.7m from the $107.8m reported in 2010-2011 and Libraries rose 2%, an increase of $1.0m on the 2010-11 estimate. It is important to note that this category does not include funding for special libraries (e.g. parliamentary libraries) or libraries in educational institutions such as schools and universities.
