Overview
The estimate of cultural expenditure by the Victorian Government was $639.8m in 2011-12 which represented 19% of the cultural expenditure by state and territory governments. Recurrent expenses accounted for 74% of Victorian Government cultural expenditure. The estimate of per person expenditure by the Victorian Government was $114.70.
The estimate of expenditure of Victorian Government funds on Heritage activities rose from $370.3m in 2010-11 to $405.1m in 2011-12, an increase of 9%. The main category responsible for this movement was Environmental heritage with a rise of 23% ($32.9m) of which $31.2m was an increase in capital expenditure. By comparison, expenditure in all other Heritage categories remained relatively stable.
VIC. GOVERNMENT HERITAGE EXPENDITURE
In 2011-12 the estimate of expenditure of Victorian Government funds for Arts activities increased by 12% to $234.7m. The main drivers of this increase were the categories of Performing arts venues and Other performing arts, with increases of 26% ($21.1m) and 51% ($5.9m) respectively. Together these two categories account for 51% of expenditure on Arts funded by the Victorian Government.
