PROPORTION OF FRIENDS OF SAME ETHNIC BACKGROUND
Having diverse social networks can expose people to others of different cultural, educational and socio-economic backgrounds and assists in developing values of acceptance and inclusiveness. People who reported that all of their friends were of the same ethnic background had a lower participation rate in sport and physical recreation than people who reported that about half of their friends were from the same ethnic background (67% compared with 80%). About three quarters (76%) of people who reported that only a few of their friends were of the same ethnic background also participated in sport and physical recreation.
