MEDIAN AGE AT MARRIAGE The median age at marriage for males in 2009 (31.5 years) has fallen slightly from that reported for 2006 to 2008 (31.6 years). The median age at marriage for females in 2009 (29.2 years) has also fallen slightly from that reported for 2005 to 2008 (29.3 years). Between 1989 and 2004 the median ages of brides and bridegrooms both increased by 3.5 years. There has, however, been very little change between 2004 and 2009. The median age of people who have never been married before (i.e., first marriage) and who registered their marriage in 2009 was 29.6 years for males and 27.7 years for females. The median ages for both males and females at first marriage increased steadily from 1989. However this increase has stabilised in recent years with the male median age at first marriage unchanged since 2006 and the female median age unchanged since 2008.
