INTRODUCTION
This publication presents information from the 2014-15 Business Characteristics Survey (BCS). The BCS is conducted annually and collects detailed information relating to: use of information technology (IT); innovation; and a broad range of other non-financial characteristics.
The statistics presented in this publication presents summary data for a selection of topics including: collaborative arrangements; geographic markets in which businesses sold goods or services; government procurement; business finance sought; reasons for seeking debt or equity finance; government financial assistance; business innovation; business use of information technology; changes to business performance and activity; barriers to innovative activity; skills used in undertaking core business activities; and skills shortage or deficiency in undertaking core business activities.
STRUCTURE OF THIS RELEASE
There are two components to this release: web based information and data cubes. The data cubes contain detailed data that underpins the tables, graphs and commentary included in the web based information.
PREVIOUS RELEASES FROM THE 2014-15 BCS
Statistics included are additional to those outputs from the BCS released earlier this year in Summary of IT Use and Innovation in Australian Business (cat. no. 8166.0) in June 2016 and Innovation in Australian Business (cat. no. 8158.0) in July 2016.

Information about data quality is provided in the Quality Declaration and Explanatory Notes and must be taken into consideration when interpreting the statistics in this release.
