BUSINESS USE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY INTRODUCTION The Business Characteristics Survey (BCS) collects key indicators of business use of IT and innovation in Australian businesses. More detailed information for each of these topics is collected in alternating years. The 2011-12 BCS had a focus on business use of IT and detailed outputs by industry, employment size and industry by employment size were released in Business Use of Information Technology, 2011-12 (cat. no. 8129.0) on 22 August 2013. Within this release a selection of business use of IT data, cross-classified by innovator status, are presented below and in the associated data cube.
For each of the key indicators of business use of information technology, innovation-active businesses reported higher proportions or levels than non innovation-active businesses. Innovation-active businesses were more than three times as likely as non innovation-active businesses to have a social media presence (29% and 8% respectively).
