The proportion of businesses with at least one type of introduced innovation increased with each successive employment size range. This pattern holds for each type of introduced innovation across each employment size range as well.

For businesses with 0-4 persons employed, the most reported type of innovation introduced was new goods or services (15%), while businesses with 5-19 and 20-199 persons employed were more likely to report new organisational/managerial processes at 26% and 32% respectively. Businesses with 200 or more persons employed recorded the highest proportion of businesses to have introduced new operational processes (42%). New marketing methods was the least reported type of innovation introduced for businesses with 5-19 persons employed and 200 or more persons employed, it was equal lowest, along with new goods or services, for those businesses with 20-199 persons employed (both 24%). For businesses employing 0-4 persons, operational processes was the least reported (11%).

The Wholesale trade and Manufacturing industries recorded the highest proportion of innovating businesses, at 44% and 42% respectively. The lowest proportion was recorded by businesses within the Construction industry (26%), slightly below Transport, postal and warehousing (29%).

The Wholesale trade industry also recorded the highest proportion of businesses introducing new goods or services and organisational/managerial processes, at 28% and 24% respectively. Manufacturing recorded the highest proportion of businesses with new operational processes (29%). The Arts and recreation industry recorded the highest proportion of businesses introducing new marketing methods (27%).

Construction and Mining had the lowest proportion of businesses which reported introducing new goods or services (both 10%). Construction also had the lowest proportion of businesses which reported the introduction of operational processes (11%) and organisational/managerial processes (15%). Mining recorded the lowest proportion of businesses introducing new marketing methods (10%). These data can be viewed in the datacubes contained within the downloads tab.
